Iran’s top cyber defence official, Gholamreza Jalali, has reported that ongoing Israeli cyberattacks targeting Iranian interests are being effectively countered by a robust “layer-by-layer” defence strategy.
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Jalali mentioned that Israel’s intelligence unit, Unit 8200, suffered significant setbacks during the October 7 cyberattacks. However, he did not disclose specifics on Iran’s countermeasures amid growing concerns of potential Israeli military action.
Highlighting the vulnerabilities of relying on foreign technology, Jalali referenced the failures of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah as examples of how external systems can be exploited by adversaries. He stressed the importance of adopting indigenous systems and infrastructure to safeguard against such threats.
