The heavy metal world is mourning the loss of Paul Di’Anno, the original vocalist of Iron Maiden, who has passed away at the age of 66. Di’Anno died at his home in Salisbury, UK, though the cause of death has not yet been disclosed. In recent years, he had faced significant health challenges.
Di’Anno, born Paul Andrews on May 17, 1958, in Chingford, East London, rose to fame as the lead singer of Iron Maiden from 1978 to 1981. His powerful voice was a defining element of the band’s debut album, Iron Maiden, and its influential follow-up, Killers. He was also the voice behind the famed Soundhouse Tapes demo that secured the band’s record deal.
Throughout his nearly 45-year career, Di’Anno was involved in numerous musical projects, including bands such as Killers, Battlezone, and Gogmagog, while also pursuing a successful solo career. His final album, The Book of the Beast, was released in September 2024 through Conquest Music and showcased highlights from his extensive discography.
Despite his declining health, which often required him to perform in a wheelchair, Di’Anno continued to tour and entertain fans, playing over 100 shows since 2023. This summer, he had a notable meeting with Bruce Dickinson, his successor in Iron Maiden, during a tour.
Conquest Music has expressed their sorrow at the loss of Paul Di’Anno and encourages fans to celebrate his life and contributions to heavy metal by raising a glass in his memory.
Rest in peace, Paul Di’Anno.
