A senior official in President Joe Biden’s administration indicated that Israel’s recent targeted retaliatory attack on Iran is expected to mark the conclusion of direct military action between the two nations. “This should be the end of the direct military exchange between Israel and Iran,” the official stated, adding that this perspective has been clearly communicated to partners throughout the region.
The official highlighted that the U.S. has been actively encouraging Israel to respond in a manner that is targeted, proportional, and minimizes civilian harm. This approach aligns with Biden’s conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week, during which the president emphasized the need for any attack to deter further hostilities and mitigate escalation risks.
While the U.S. did not play a direct role in the strikes, the official noted that the Biden administration remains committed to supporting Israel should Iran respond with aggression. “Should Iran choose to respond, we are fully prepared to once again defend against any attack,” the official affirmed.
