Yashma Gill wants to assure her fans that she is not leaving the entertainment industry. The actress took to social media to clarify after her introduction to religious preacher Dr Zakir Naik during a lecture at the Governor House in Karachi was misinterpreted.
In an Instagram story posted on Sunday evening, Gill explained that she attended the talk and had the chance to discuss her personal struggles in her spiritual journey.
“While speaking, I made a statement that may not have been conveyed clearly. Due to the noise from the crowd and issues with the microphone cutting out, it may have given the impression that I have left acting,” she said.
“I want to clarify any misunderstandings that may have arisen; I am still acting and working. I only mentioned my profession as an actress before continuing with my question. Watching the full video from the beginning will provide better context.”
In videos from the event, Gill introduced herself as an actor and shared her experience of “falling into the trap of atheism” during her college years. She mentioned that Dr. Naik’s videos and lectures helped her reconnect with her faith and posed a question about predestination and free will.
However, Dr. Naik mistakenly referred to her as a former actor while answering her question, which contributed to the confusion.
In her Instagram story, Gill expressed uncertainty about the future but affirmed that she is currently focused on “finding balance between deen and dunya.” She appreciated Dr. Naik’s influence on her spiritual journey and encouraged others to attend his talks.
In a follow-up story, she explained that she couldn’t correct the misunderstanding at the event, as it would have been disrespectful to interrupt him while he was speaking.
Dr Naik is currently in Pakistan for a month-long tour, delivering lectures in major cities such as Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore. This marks his first visit to Pakistan in three decades; his last visit was in 1992, when he met with religious scholar Dr Israr Ahmed in Lahore before returning to India.
Originally from India, Naik currently resides in Malaysia due to legal issues in his home country, which has sought his extradition on various charges.
